Hey there! After spending countless hours helping friends pack for their Bali trips (and making plenty of fashion mistakes myself during my island adventures), I’m here to share everything you need to know about nailing that perfect Bali wardrobe.
Trust me, I’ve learned the hard way that cotton maxi dress you love might not be your best friend in Bali’s humidity!
First things first – let’s talk about what you actually need to pack. I’m gonna keep it real with you – less is definitely more when it comes to Bali style.
• 2-3 lightweight sundresses (I live in these!)
• A couple of crop tops with flowy skirts
• Those perfect white shorts you can mix with everything
• At least 2 swimsuits (trust me, you’ll be living in these)
• A statement sunhat (doubles as the perfect photo prop)
Here’s something I wish someone had told me before my first trip: Layer your jewelry, not your clothes! The humidity makes fabric layering pretty uncomfortable, but stacked necklaces and bracelets? That’s where the magic happens.
I used to stick to boring neutrals until I realized – Bali is all about embracing color! Now I’m obsessed with:
• Bold florals
• Tropical prints
• Sunset-inspired colors
• Anything that makes you feel like dancing in a rice field
Beach Day Look:
• Bikini + cute sarong
• Oversized linen shirt (steal it from your boyfriend if you have to!)
• Comfy slides
• That sunhat I mentioned earlier
Dinner by the Beach:
• Flowy midi dress (bonus points if it twirls)
• Simple sandals
• Shell jewelry
• Small rattan clutch
Let’s talk about what to leave at home (I learned these the hard way):
• Anything synthetic – your skin will thank me later
• High heels (unless you enjoy wobbling on uneven paths)
• Heavy jewelry that’ll make you sweat
• Dark colors that absorb heat
When you’re shooting your outfits:
• Golden hour is your best friend
• Find those rice field backgrounds
• Don’t forget to move – twirl in that dress!
• Use coconuts as props (so cliche but so cute)
Look, I’m not gonna sugar-coat it – you’ll probably sweat through some outfits. Your hair might frizz. That perfect white dress might get a little dirty during your scooter adventures.
But that’s part of the Bali magic! The key is picking clothes that make you feel amazing while being practical enough for real adventures.
Remember, the best outfit is one that makes you feel confident and comfortable. Bali’s laid-back vibe means you can pretty much wear whatever makes you happy – just keep it respectful at temples and pack lots of light, breathable fabrics.
Now go forth and rock that island style! And if you see me around Canggu in my favorite wrap dress and shell necklace, come say hi!
(P.S. – Don’t forget to pack a reusable water bottle. Staying hydrated is the best accessory!)
